Budget 2019 – What’s in it for the Indian Agriculture Sector?

The honorable Finance Minster of India Smt. Nirmala Seetharaman announced the Budget for 2019. Experts call this the ”Game Changer” budget.

India being an agri driven economy with agri sector contributing to 16% of India’s GDP. The government of India had to take necessary steps to make sure that the Budget is aligned with the growth. These are the steps taken in this budget

Budget 2019-20 has a historic allocation for the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare: Rs 1,30,485 crore —the highest-ever allocation done by a FM so far.

Total Allocation : 1,30,485 crore

Rs. 6000/- Income Support for 12.6 Cr Farmers via PM-KISAN Yojana.

Big Push to ZBNF( Zero Budget Natural Farming ), The government has asked farmers to adopt ZBNF farming methodologies to reduce dependency on fertilizers.

Over 1.25 Lakh rural roads will be built under the Gram Sadak Yojana in the next 5 years

Fertilizer Subsidy raised to 79,000 Cr from 70,000 Cr

Setting up of 80 livelihood business incubators (LBIs) & 20 technology business incubators (TBIs) to develop 75,000 skilled entrepreneurs in the agro-rural industry sector.

Dairy through cooperative societies will also be boosted by creating infrastructure for cattle feed manufacturing, milk procurement, processing, and marketing

Sitharaman said, “We will invest widely in agricultural infrastructure. We will support private entrepreneurship in driving value-addition to farmers’ produce from the field and for those from allied activities, like bamboo and timber from the hedges and for generating renewable energy. Annadata can also be Urjadata.”
